Your Original Documents

Due to the widespread use of digital copies of estate planning documents, we will not be keeping duplicate paper Originals of our clients’ documents. We will retain PDF or digital copies for at least 5 years as required by the State Bar of Arizona and will be happy to provide clients with PDF copies without charge.

Our files are stored digitally for a period longer than 5 years, but we request our clients be the custodians of their own Originals as it is most effective for them.

We remain willing to email digital or pdf copies of documents so you provide them to professionals who request them or for you to store in a manner you choose as secure. Also, we are available to certify copies of estate planning documents when requested and appropriate. Certified copies are occasionally required by financial institutions or health care providers when estate planning documents are more than several years old. Financial institutions at times want assurances that old Powers of Attorney or Trusts have not been revoked or amended.

For clients who have stored their Original Documents with us we will keep them until directed otherwise. If you would like your Original documents that we have been holding for you, feel free to contact us.
